Gentlemen,
I saw some discussion on buttons. Peter Twist still sells buttons. He doesn't sell directly himself any longer. He only sells through the company "Military Heritage". He only has Irish Guards buttons. He has all three sizes available. They are brass plated cast buttons, not brass stamped. Outwardly, you can't tell them from the real thing. They are heavier than the real thing and since they are brass plated, you can strip the brass off with a dremel if you try to polish them that way. I've been wearing them for years now and I've not polished through a set yet.
http://www.militaryheritage.com/button5.htm I believe Castle Keep has Coldstream Guards buttons. If anyone has a source for King's Crown Scots Guards buttons, please let me know.
As a piece of trivia for you stitch nazis out there. There is a difference between the George V and George VI Grenadier Guards buttons. Both have the GR monogram twice with the grenade in-between. The George the V buttons have the GR with the tops of loop of the G and R overlapping. The George the VI buttons have the same GR but they don't touch at the top. Check it out. Don't worry, someone had to point it out to me also and I've been collecting Guards items for 15 years.
Sincerely,
Mick Burgess
