WPG package deal

WPG package deal

Postby Benjamin McGee on Fri Jan 09, 2009 6:12 pm

Hello Guys,

I saw that you guys recommend the pakage deal from What Price Glory. Is this still the status-quo or is there another alternative? How does WPG compare to Replicators. Thanks for your time!

Hey Ben,

As of right now, WPG is the best bang for your buck. Some guys have Replicators (Sanjay Suri), and other have WPG. The quality from WPG is far superior to the ones Sanjay makes, but it is certainly cheaper to get one from Sanjay. Great War Militaria probably makes the very best quality and authenticity-wise, but you will pay through the nose for it. Overall WPG's package deal gives you a quality product without paying on the very high end.

I hope this helps and if we can help with anything else, let us know!

Regards,

Hey Ben,
We are all over the board. We have guys in MI, OH, MD, VA, DE, NJ, etc to name a few. Since our primary events are at Newville PA, the distance doesn't cause too many problems, and guy will generally coordinate with guys near them for local events. I am in Virginia Beach. Shoot me an email/PM and I will send you my number. That way I can fill you in a little more about the Guards and WWI living history.

Take care,

You know ben the cheapest way to go for ww1 is highlander, you dont have to buy an expensive sd cap or trousers and a kilt can easily be loaned or found fairly cheaply. LOL Btw I represent the 1st battalion black watch royal highlanders and we are always looking for members! But i must say that you really cant go wrong with choosing a unit in this hobby as they are all such good guys within the gwa!

Neway, I look forward to seeing you in the trenches!

Cheers!

Hey Chad,

Who would really want to wear a skirt anyway?

By the way, if you don't want to go for the whole kit from WPG, you could just get the uniform there and the webgear from Schipperfabrik or Lawrance Ordinance. Paul Schipper makes some great P08 webgear that is much better quality than WPG and at a competitive price. Lawrance Ordinance also is top notch, but I hear he is really back ordered. It is hard to beat the whole kit from one place at WPG, so don't let me steer you away from that. Most guys use WPG webgear, but Schipper or Lawrance is a step up.

Just some ideas.

I think if my wife saw me in a kilt her suspicions would be confirmed that I was insane! I sold off some excess ACW kit and I'm using the dough for the WPG Coat and trowsers. I keep hearing good things about the austrailian outfits P08 gear. Does anyone else make the SD cap. I heard there was an outfit in the UK that makes a 100% spot on version?

Lawrance Ordnance definitely makes great stuff and I would highly recommend them, the only issue is the delay due to shipping from Australia and that things are back ordered. Speaking of which, have you heard anything from them Drew? I know you ordered a set back before the November event, did it ever show up. As for Schipperfabrik's stuff, it is fairly new. I don't think he has been carrying the P08 for much more than a year and it seems like everytime a new repro set comes out, it is a little better than the last one.

Regarding the SD Cap, WPG makes a nice one. I am not too sure what UK company you are thinking of. The two I know of are the Sutler's Store and Military History Workshop. I have not ordered from Sutler's Store, but their reputation is that they are overpriced, for a mediocre product. Military History Workshop on the other hand makes top notch and one of a kind stuff. I bought a kit bag from them, and an officer's Gor Blimey cap and I have been really happy with their stuff.

Do you know which UK company was making the SD cap you mentioned?

Cheers,
Jim

Not sure of the name of the company. I think I read it off a thread on the trench line. If I remember correctly, the hats were made by one of the original contractors. I will try to find the thread.

Good to see some activity on the forums, they have been a little quite lately. I got an email from Lawrence Ordinance and they have all parts of the basic web gear except for Large packs and the size large belts. Everything else is in stock as far as I know. I would say stick to a guards unit over the highlanders, I mean Bomber Macgregor
is always hanging in the guards sector of the trench and on the guards forums for a reason, we are the best! :)

I may go with lawrence ordnance for the web gear. Are the prices on their site in Astrailian$ or American$? If Austrailian, the the sets are like $214.00, not a bad deal.

I am pretty sure it is in Australian Dollars. So over all not a bad deal at all.

He also makes good mess tins, so you may consider picking up one at the same time.
