the 6 PM Great Rout

Postby Corporal Walsh on Thu Nov 08, 2007 8:14 pm

I'd be interested to hear comments on the 6 PM run from the french sector across no man's land to the valley of death etc.

Watching from our BEF position, it looked pretty silly with the French and Russians doing great RAMBO impressions.

The BEF were later comlimented by the Boshe for taking hits.

Any comments?

LMAO!!!!

The attack was awesome if you didn't pay attention to the French Rambo's..... Apparently the entire French army at newville is made up of jean Claude van dame clones!! It was a very well executed attack and the co op between rifle men and bombers was outstanding, although i did have to "persuade" some gun shy yanks to get the lead out and keep moving. But all in all i thought it was a most amazing experience. Especially for me i was in my element screaming out orders and such to the rest of my squad. I felt like a true soldier.

Cheers!

The French weren't too bad starting off. It wasn't until the second phase of the attack that they got a little bold by attacking parallel through NML.

I thought it was awesome when the 2 flare signal came early because a small German attack provoked the offensive to jump off early. It was really cool the way the French and Russians were posted at each gap in the wire to lead us through. Once we got into the trenches it was utter chaos with guys fighting each way. It was kinda cool that the Brits had 3 platoons and as each one engaged the others supported each other.

I was going past what appeared to be a cleared trench and was called over by a wounded kiltie. I thought he was trying to give me some spare grenades, but it turns out he was trying to tell me that there was still a German hidden out there. As soon as I leaned over the kiltie the German popped me and I dropped. Eventually a US medic came around and patched me up and I led back walking wounded to be recycled. By the time we got back, word came in that they had swept all of the German lines.

Overall, it was an AWESOME attack despite the few Rambos. From what I could see the Brits and Yanks played fair.

Sir James,

Thanks for the insite as to what happened on your end.
Redrup was so"fired up" at the French "going in parallel" and not taking hits that we came out from trench cover (and put our rifle butts up and muzzle burried in the ground to show that we weren't participants) as a kind of "show of disgust."

The more you read about this time era, the more you realise (the truth in the stupid phrase we yell.) "EVERYBODY DIES"!!!!!!

Oh, well... maybe next time we'll get it right!!!
