This is more of an after action report:
Last weekend we had great weather out here on the east coast.
My son, Tom, and I escaped the mid-winter wrath of way too much estrogen going on in my house. We bailed at about 6 am, so that when the Mrs. called us at 8 AM, we were almost at the Harrisburg exit of the turnpike!!!!
By the numbers:
1)We met up with Chad Bear and acquired a 60 foot by 10 foot piece of rubberized roofing.
2) We re-enforced the existing roof so that there should be a good drain off of rain. Also, you can jump up and down on that puppy and it is not going to break. We didn't have "MAX" there to MAX out our stress test but it should be fine.
3) We dug a gully/ drain off route for the rain that comes out behind our sector.
4) We had to clear away some existing barbed wire to lay down the rubberized roofing.
5) We filled and re-appropriated 40 sand bags so that the perimeter of the rubberized roofing is securely held down.
6) We filled about half of the roof with dirt before burning out. The other half can wait until April. We will have a dry dug out for April.
Looking to the April event:
1) We need to finish:
a) filling in the roof. (6" required by Newville standards.)
b) About another 20 sandbags around the perimeter of the lookout post.
c) The seating inside needs upgrading. (The old stuff has faded away.)
When done we should be able to fit 4 sitting and 3 more standing plus
two in the lookout post.
2) We need to re-do a lot of our perimeter barbed wire. We have a lot of wire waiting to unroll. We have old "pigtail steaks." Please bring two to three pair of wire cutters to the April event.
3) Our three barb wired fences are on their last legs. If you think of it bring some three foot two by fours to re-enforce.
4) The good news is that there were no shrubs or overgrowth.
5) We have 5 firing positions on the long wall and three on the short wall.
We need to extend that to 7 going in the direction of the Blackwatch.
6) If anyone can make it out a day of two early, it makes a big difference during the event. A four man rotation can knock out 100 sandbags in no time flat without breaking a sweat.
Looking forward to seeing as many of the "old Contemptibles" as possible and the "new recuits" as well in April. This should be a blast!!!!!
