A place to discuss all things related to the WWI Tommy in the PBI - Poor Bloody Infantry

delayed response

Jim,

Sorry that I did not respond sooner, guess I had accidentally overlooked your post.

For some reason Ernie had us all "Blanco" our webbing in the more desert shade. He has some theory that the Guards arrived from North Africa. I really do not know how legitimate it is. We used Rustoleum Yellow Primer #7770 (now discontinued) to achieve this "Blanco" previously. In my opinion all early war events should be the more Pea Green shade (and after looking at some original 37 webbing I have with this blanco on it I am surprised how bright green some of it really is). And any event D-day or after should be the dark OD green.

The real beef I have with the yellow/tan blanco is that is makes us easy targets at events. In addition to the fact that I have not found any documentation to support its use.

Thanks for the pointer on the Tarrago cream. I picked up a decent repro 08 belt off of E-bay to use for a walking out belt so I will experiment with the cream on that.

Cheers,

---Scott

Hey Scott,
I have noticed that the Coldstream Guards wear the light khaki shade blanco for WWII instead of the darker OD green. I was wondering if you could enlighten me on that. I have a set of P37 gear I wanted to blanco properly for WWII Grenadier Guards.

Thanks!

Jim

Hey Guys,
I dug up an old post as a reminder. Get some Tarrago Paste and Blanco your webbing by the Spring event! Be sure to polish that brass too. I know it is a royal pain in the rear, but we are representing the Guards Regiments.

Go to the Tarrago website and order 2 tins of Antelope and 2 tins of Olive since there is a $10 minimum, mix them together and apply with an old toothbrush. You should have enough to do a complete set of webgear with a little left over for future touch ups. Remember, only do the outside surfaces. Not the insides of the packs, pouches and belts.

I hope all of us can have our webbing properly blancoed by the April Newville!

If you have any questions or comments on doing this, give me a shout. It is really quite simple to do even though it is time consuming, and adds a lot to our impression.

2 Tins of Antelope
2 Tins of Olive

(This is the same brand WPG sells, but cheaper and WPG has the wrong colors for WWI)

Who is going to be prepped for April?
